Board of Deacons

The role of the Board of Deacons is to minister very personally to those church members who are ill, homebound or distressed in any other way.  In that vein, the following areas are handled thoroughly by the Deacons of St. Andrews:

1.  Daily prayer on behalf of those persons in our congregation who are sick, friendless or in distress, as well as prayer for the church, her minister, and all members of our church and community.

2.   Visits to those who are hospitalized, to the homebound and to any on our deacon "care list" who need supportive help.

3.   Keep "in touch" with those in our care through telephone calls, cards for special occasions--birthdays, anniversaries, sympathy, major holidays--or on whatever occasion each deacon deems appropriate.

4.   Preparing meals when considered necessary for homebounds in need of such service.

5.   Attending funerals of deceased members.

6.   Preparing luncheons on the occasion of a member funeral if requested by family of deceased.

7.   Distributing tapes of church worship services to those who request them.

8.   Serving as "Deacon of the Month" with visits to all nursing home residents and homebound members.

9.   Procuring greeters for worship services.

10. Assisting the minister in serving home communions.

11. Keeping in touch with new infants and expectant mothers.

12. Arranging/providing transportation for those in need of this service.

13. Reporting regularly to the congregation through the monthly Herald.

14. Reporting monthly (through the "Deacon of the Month") to St. Andrews Session.

15. Keeping church first aid kits updated.

16. Maintaining church attendance/deacons files.

17. Assisting in transporting wheel-chair confined members from nursing homes who wish to attend worship services.
